My fingers are a little bit too large for most thimbles or the leather thimbles that are for sale. I ran across a leather site, http://SewingWithLeather.com and found "custom fitted" leather thimble kits (as well as a number of other kits, books and patterns). I ordered the leather thimble kit, made the thimble and have been very pleased with the results. Just thought there might be others out there that need help with thimbles for quilting and handwork.
