I just completed my first project that had gathers. The way the pattern was configured, there were two rows of gathering threads, a row a of basting, and another row of stitching. I was sewing with black thread and was really confused as to which threads to pull to make the gathers under the bust area. Long story short, I messed things up. When I re-did the gathers, I used a different colored (brightly, in my case) thread. It was easy to tell which were the gathering threads.
I hope this tip is useful to someone! I'm kind of new to sewing, so I don't want to post a dumb tip! |
I use different colors in the needle and the bobbin. That way I can easily find the bobbin threads which are the easist to pull up on and gather the fabric. I use the thread that is leftover on my bobbins for gathering and basting. It is a great way to use up the last bits of thread

I also use a different color when gathering and basting as well. No tip is a dumb tip. I don't know anyone yet who knows everything! Thanks for taking the time out! Knowledge is power! Even if you already know-it's good that someone else can confirm it!

Not a dumb tip at all, in fact this is a really good suggestion.
