Featured in the PR book! |
The first time I needed to gather something I needed my mom to hold both ends when I was making the fabric the right length and the wrinkles spread equally. Which isn't very usefull if you are alone or the gathered fabric is to long to hold.
The next time I had to gather I read this great how to gather tip in some book I had. It was really helpfull. The first thing that it said was to make two rows of stitching/basting (I didn't know that at that point). Which made the gathering more easy and did not require me to take all out and stitch again when one of my threads broke.
The best thing was the way they made the gathers stay put. You basically put a pin at both ends of the piece you are gathering. When you have it at the desired length you take the thread and make it go around the pin so it makes an eight-shape a few times, going over the pin in the center and under the pin at the top and bottom edges of the pin. After that you can easily put the gathered on the table and shift it a bit so its equally spread. When you need to adjust the length you can just unwind the thread, adjust the length of the gatherd fabric and tie it again.
(Okey, I have a feeling this sounds a bit vague, but I hope it can be some help) |
