Web site/URL: Make a Skirt Muslin
The name of this class doesn't do it justice. The ultimate goal of the class is to create a master skirt pattern that can be used to alter any skirt pattern for a custom fit. This goal is reached by first creating a well fitting muslin of a commercial straight skirt pattern. In the process of creating this muslin the basic principles of pattern drafting and altering are introduced and implemented by the students.

There are 12 lessons: Lesson 1, Fit vs ease; Lesson 2, Taking Measurements--two different worksheets are provided; Lesson 3, Calculations; Lesson 4, Alter Pattern/construct muslin; Lesson 5, Read the wrinkles; Lesson 6, Correct your muslin; Lesson 7, Make your master pattern using your muslin, Lesson 8,Customize your sloper Lesson 9. Prefit using your master pattern; Lesson 10, Prefit a countoured waistband and determining most flattering skirt lengths; Lesson 11, Making decisions and moving darts; Lesson 12, Dart rotation and multiple seams.

Shannon Gifford, the instructor, offers each student fantastic support and instruction on the class message board. Students ask questions and post photos of their muslins, which Shannon analyzes and gives detailed help for improving fit, etc. I learned not only from the help she gave me, but also her suggestions to other students on their particular fitting issues.

The class also includes the online chat sessions, which were fun and very helpful.

I've used the sloper (master pattern) I developed in this class to alter an 8 gore skirt I made last summer that didn't fit very well, and also adjust Kwik Sew 3098(reviewed in pattern reviews) to fit me perfectly. I have also taken the lessons I learned in this class and applied them to create a pants master pattern from McCall's 5239. (Palmer Pletsch Perfect fit Pants).

I highly recommend this class! I plan on taking as many of Shannon's classes as possible.

Thanks for this review. I have had to take a break lately from sewing, but I am feeling the bug for again for wardrobe sewing. I really need this class..
