First the cost. This class was $25 US, and that makes it the bargain of the century! I am not kidding! I needed a new large binder to hold the lessons, and I not only had fun taking this, but learned a lot. You do not have to own the Lutterloh set to take this class. You can try it out.

Starting with the brochure which includes a pattern for a vest, a shirt and a pair of shorts, the class proceeds through drafting and sewing each garment including ones own particular fitting issues. More patterns are included as the instructor sees what each person's needs are.

Taught by Sonja Bezuidenhout, the class is part of the Lutterloh New Zealand business. There are several other classes taught, and they sell a sewing eBook on the site as well.

Although this class is based on using the Lutterloh System for drafting patterns, and of course the Lutterloh patterns are all you use (supplied in the class materials), the class covers sewing each of three garments. The patterns you use are supplied by the instructor, and the classes include 9 lessons in PDF format, which run to more than 60 pages of material, almost all of which is transferable to any sewing task. The last lesson in the class includes skirts, a happy bonus I didn't expect! Sonja is an excellent teacher, emailing every day with a lot of extra information, and answering questions from the students in the class with kindness, patience and a lot of humor! After the class is over, she still welcomes emails and provides advice on choosing patterns for ones own style and body type and a lot of moral support! :))

Found it really helpful and for that price, you can't go wrong. I've e-mailed them. I can't wait to do this course. Thanks!

I plan to take one of these courses as soon as my schedule calms down - maybe in January. The challenge for me with classes, projects and contests is the time limit. It adds one more pressure I don't need in my stressed to the max life right now. I wouldn't be able to take advantage of all her excellent advice. However, I'm hoping to take this one in Jan or next summer. Thank you for all the info on how much resources you get.

Thanks so much for this review. I'd been thinking of taking this class but decided against it because I thought I had all of the skills I needed. But because of your review, I'm thinking of taking it, because it seems as if there's more to it than I thought. Very helpful review!

So are you using the Lutterloh pattern making program for this class? I'd like to learn to do my own patterns as it's getting harder to find a good pattern that fits me well.

I have been looking for a class like this. Your comments make me want to try it...if only I had more time to devote to sewing for myself right now.
