Web site/URL: The Technique of Underlining Garments
I thoroughly enjoyed the Underlining class with Sarah Veblen. She is truly a gifted teacher with the innate ability to shift gears quickly based on the level of expertise of all of her students without skipping a beat. She has mastered the art of keeping her class on track as the online chats progress and always ensures that each and every question is answered to the students satisfaction.
The lessons were always posted in advance so each student had plenty of time to review the material prior to each scheduled chat. When we had questions outside of the chat room, she was quick to respond and make sure we all understood the topic thoroughly.
I took this class because I couldn't find very much information on this topic. Based on the handouts provided during the class, the hands-on experience obtained by constructing the half-scale skirt and bodice, and the discussions online, I have a much better understanding of when to use underlining during garment construction. The 12 lessons I received during the course of this class are now a permanent part of my sewing reference library.
I highly recommend this class or any taught by Sarah. She is a warm hearted, caring teacher who is definitely an expert in her field.

Thank you for this review. I had hoped to take this class, but life got in the way! Hopefully I will be able to take it next time. Mary Anne

I whole heartedly agree. I took the class with you and I got a lot out of it. How does the saying go... "I didn't know how much I didn't know!" I highly recommend it.

Is it possible to take a class after the fact? Buy the kit and get the lessons without the benefit of the online discussions? I'm bummed that I missed this - aged parents and all that goes with it (oh, and working FT) is getting the best of my time.

Zane: Classes are repeated throughout the year. You can even go in and sign up for a reminder when a certain class is scheduled. These online classes would be perfect for you as they're designed so that you don't have to participate in the classroom (discussion) portion if you can't fit it into your schedule. If there are materials for a course, they are mailed to you. The lessons are usually posted one per day during the course of the class. All the info is contained in these PDF files, along with pictures. Participating in the discussions allows you to interact with the instructor so you can bring up any questions you might have. FYI: Some of these classes are even available in video. Good luck with your decision.
