A couple of years ago I made a skirt out of silk chiffon. Although I'm an experienced seamstress "this is different cook" as we say in Dutch. I found it really difficult to work with this material, from my point a view it was a disaster. I surfed on the internet to find a workshop for working with this material and I found the website of Marla Kazell.

I decided to sign up for this class and have never ever regeretted this!!! I have learned a lot about working with silk chiffon. Especially about how to cut the material (now I know what went wrong with my skirt) and about making a hem with such difficult material. I came all the way from Holland to participate in this class. Had a trip of 10 hours by plane but I have had a marvelous time!! Great class in a great environement. Marla was so very very kind to pick me up at the airport and to take me there again after the course had finished. I loved it to work with the other ladies in the class, made a few new sewing friends.
To combine this with a trip to Portland is tremendously, nice people, save environement. All in all; if I have the opportunity to go back to Portland to take another class with Marla about another subject I'll certainly do!! Marla is a very skilled teacher who has a lot of experience with all kind of couture garments.

I made a blouse. I'll make a review about it so you can all see the result!

Jolet, as some say here, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating," and when you wear that beautiful blouse you will be reminded of the wonderful class and how much you learned there. Sounds like you developed new skills and friends and so much more. Fantastic!

Thanks for this review. I worked with Marla on fitting a few years ago when I was returning to sewing after a long hiatus. She was a terrific teacher. It is so nice to see her acknowledged this way, particularly by someone who traveled so incredibly far to work with her! This is her website for those who may be interested ---http://www.marlakazell.com/index.htm
