|Okay, first this was my first online Pattern Review class (I've taken non-sewing classes online before) and I was a little hesitant to sign up for a class that is essentially a hands-on skill delivered digitally. I didn't need to be. I had no technical difficulties. The materials were filled with clear instructions and lots of photos and delivered in order of use. The chats were helpful for asking questions on your individual jacket issues ( I attended all three) but if you couldn't attend, it was okay because Shannon monitors the class board several times a day and so any questions you come up with get answered very quickly. The materials covered several styles of jackets allowing you to choose from a variety of pattern styles.
This was my first jacket ever--my mom, teachers, etc. always told me jackets were for advanced sewers and to sew a skirt instead (any wonder why I'd quit sewing years ago). I was a little nervous as I don't consider myself an advanced sewer (hey, I had to look up how to do a catch stitch and a buttonhole stitch  ) and asked lots of questions. I followed the instructions and followed Shannon's advice both in the materials and on the boards. She is very patient and answers each question with respect (I never felt like I'd asked an overly obvious or dumb question--so not like my teachers years ago!). I just went step by step and took my time.
Needless to say--my jacket is awesome! It does NOT look like a first homemade jacket--it DOES look like an expensive purchased jacket. (The jacket was Simplicity 4099--mandarin collar, princess seams on the front, darts on the back, etc. so not too simple of a pattern.)
Because of this class, I signed up for the Build a Better Blouse class--I will get my custom wardrobe yet! More importantly, I feel confident in making jackets this way on my own--already have one partly cut out! I also am not afraid anymore to tackle something "advanced" -- with a teacher like Shannon, I know I can get great results by following the advice and instructions given even after the class is over.
