Okay, first this was my first online Pattern Review class (I've taken non-sewing classes online before) and I was a little hesitant to sign up for a class that is essentially a hands-on skill delivered digitally. I didn't need to be. I had no technical difficulties. The materials were filled with clear instructions and lots of photos and delivered in order of use. The chats were helpful for asking questions on your individual jacket issues ( I attended all three) but if you couldn't attend, it was okay because Shannon monitors the class board several times a day and so any questions you come up with get answered very quickly. The materials covered several styles of jackets allowing you to choose from a variety of pattern styles.

This was my first jacket ever--my mom, teachers, etc. always told me jackets were for advanced sewers and to sew a skirt instead (any wonder why I'd quit sewing years ago). I was a little nervous as I don't consider myself an advanced sewer (hey, I had to look up how to do a catch stitch and a buttonhole stitch  ) and asked lots of questions. I followed the instructions and followed Shannon's advice both in the materials and on the boards. She is very patient and answers each question with respect (I never felt like I'd asked an overly obvious or dumb question--so not like my teachers years ago!). I just went step by step and took my time.

Needless to say--my jacket is awesome! It does NOT look like a first homemade jacket--it DOES look like an expensive purchased jacket. (The jacket was Simplicity 4099--mandarin collar, princess seams on the front, darts on the back, etc. so not too simple of a pattern.)

Because of this class, I signed up for the Build a Better Blouse class--I will get my custom wardrobe yet! More importantly, I feel confident in making jackets this way on my own--already have one partly cut out! I also am not afraid anymore to tackle something "advanced" -- with a teacher like Shannon, I know I can get great results by following the advice and instructions given even after the class is over.

Thank you for the wonderful review, I've also looked at the online classes, however from Australia not sure I could participate in the chat room but doesn't seem to be a problem.

I'm so glad that you got a great jacket and a wonderful experience with Shannon. I too was so thrilled with this class. The chats were OK (I only "attended" one in real time and merely read the transcripts for the others) but her materials and answers on the boards made this class THE BEST.

Sharp, thank you for this review -- I just want to say the stitch&flip jacket class is the 1st online class I've ever taken & it was the best of all! Besides the great jacket & all the great help, an online class lets me sit at my own machine on my own chair, cutting on my own table, at my own time of the day, - - -need I say more? Shannon is awesome. I then took the build a better blouse class & came out with the very best fitting blouse, best collar, need I say more?

I also took this class and I agree. Shannon is a great instructor, gives great handout materials, and seems to be quite willing to assist in the future.

Your jacket is great!!!! I really like the button closures. You did a wonderful job - not a homemade look anywhere! Congrats. Here is a link to Sharp's review: It is worth a look. I took this class also, but have yet to have time to actually sew my jacket. I'm re-inspired.....
