When trying to align stripes or match plaids or floral patterns, use the tracing paper to create a template.

Here is a photo of a shirt front with the pattern piece still attached, and the pocket placement marked.

Place the corresponding piece over the placement line and lightly trace the floral pattern onto the pocket piece through both pieces of tissue. Now your pocket piece has the floral pattern marked making it easy to shift around the fabric until you find just the right place to pin the piece and cut your pocket.
