When I started trying to make a bra last summer, I used the underwires I bought from an online vendor with the size that was recommended for the bra style. Unfortunately, I found the underwire to be too long. This was a real pain because underwires have to be the right size, and it's easy to spend money on wrong sizes before you get the right one.

Since all my RTW are virtually the same style, I removed the underwires from a retired favorite bra, and they ended up being the perfect size.

So, if you ever think you might be interested in bra making, save those underwires! They just might come in handy and save you the frustration of plunking down money for the wrong-sized wires. Even if they're not perfect, the bra style can likely be modified if the wires are close in size to what you need.

I wish I had done this for my first bra. The wires I ended up ordering, in a few different sizes, were all WAY too big. Not just long, but wide! I'm going to recycle some from an old bra, and get good m'mts from it. Good tip!

useful suggestion. I'm considering venturing into bra making and this could save my efforts tremendously.

I would also take a full size scan or copy of it to send and aske the bra supplier what would be the right match.

I just started saving notions from the clothes out of the thrift store bag, like shoulder pads, buttons, things that can be incredibly pricey new.
