Fabric alone can be a bit cumbersome when wrapping a package...the question is: do you use tape or pins to fasten it while wrapping? I came upon the idea of adding freezer paper to stabilize the fabric thereby creating a manageable gift wrap. I used 100% quilters cotton but other fabrics could be used.

To avoid having any excess bulk I measure the length and width of the gift to determine the size of the fabric that I need to cut as well as the size of freezer paper I will need. Notice that the freezer paper has a dull side and a shiny side. You want to iron the shiny side of the paper to the wrong side of the fabric. (Test a sample to determine iron heat setting - I used the cotton setting.) Let the fabric cool before using.

You will find that the fabric is quite manageable now - you can crease it to hold its shape to the box and if you are careful where you place your 'seams' and folds you can hold them in place with your ribbon thereby not having to use pins or tape.

The fabric and the freezer paper can very easily be separated for re-use. (NOTE: Quilters have been using freezer paper templates and using them many times over - it is nice to keep a roll in your sewing room!)

Very clever idea that I will use on my next gift. And a great idea for using fabric that has been languishing in stash for a while.
