The old wood trays printers used to hold lead type are divided into compartments, which are the perfect size for storing a slender thread spool and its matching bobbin. They're fairly easy to find at antique shops or flea markets. Nail 2 hanging brackets to the top corners on the back, and hang it so the long dimension of the compartments is vertical. You can rest the spools on the horizontal dividers and top each with its bobbin. Its a fun and functional display.
