Designer Courses runs s number of craft based courses in Central london (near Chancery Lane / Holborn). They run courses on sewing and dressmaking - but also on leather working, jewelry making and other fashio-related crafts.
This was my second course with them and their wonderful sewing instructor - Lena Sentana (www.lenasentana.com).
The course covered making our own patterns using a dress form. It was an 8 week course n which we tried to make patterns for a blouse, a skirt and a dress. In fact the only negative thing I would say about it was too much was packed into 8 weeks - and I believe the latest run of the course has been extended to 10 weeks.
The first lesson was a bit of a refresher where we covered some basic sewing skills and got used to the machines. There were 8 of us on the course - with ages ranging from I would guess 19 to myself who I think was the oldest at 40.
After that we went through how to mark and measure out the body form and then use muslin to drape our pattern pieces, Right from the start we were encouraged to experiment with our shapes and draping.
The courses were great fun - with a great teacher who encouraged us all the way through. What was especially inspiring was the Lena would bring items from her own clothing line and show us how she had put them together using the techniques we went through.
So after my 8 weeks I finished with 3 garments - two of which I am very happy with, 1 of which I will put down to experience! I'll let you choose which one is which...
Sounds like a wonderful course.

I've just realised I spelt Lena's name incorrectly. It's Lena Santana - www.lenasantana.com)
