|Date of Class: December 2009
Instructor: Shannon Gifford
I really appreciated the detail on working with patterns that was provided in this class. Shannon built on the basics of the last class (Beginner Sewing Lab 101) and guided us through a project that required a garment pattern.
She offered guidance on how to find your size pattern- either a simple store-bought or a downloaded pattern. I learned how to sort out, understand, alter and use the markings and instructions for a pattern. Great tips were included on how to make multi-size patterns easier to understand and what was needed to successfully trace the size you required including very basic adjustments.
The course covered making a garment from the pattern and what fabrics and notions could be used or substituted.
The Chat Room was not a part of this course so we used our Classroom to meet and exchange ideas with each other. Most of our questions were about the process of pattern & fabric selection and garment construction and they were all addressed very knowledgeably by Shannon.
I had been away from sewing for 20+ years and patterns, notions, and fabrics have changed quite a bit. I think this is a very worthwhile class for returning sewers and beginners and I am looking forward to Sewing Lab 103.
