Today, after pre-shrinking some cotton fabric for a blouse, I put the longer unpressed portion, draped over my shoulder. It worked!
It did not drag on the floor. Does anyone have another way of dealing with this?

I keep a spare shower curtain rod above my bathtub to hang fabric to let it air dry.
