Reinforcing Underarm Seams

The underarm seam of a well-loved garment can give way from frequent use. To help prevent this, set in the sleeve by sewing from notch to notch.

Begin stitching at an underarm notch. When you arrive back at the starting point (the first notch), continue sewing from the first notch to the second underarm notch. This second pass will provide reinforcement stitching for the underarm area.

I always double stitch the underarm area but I usually take the garment out of the machine and reinsert to double stitch. Next time I am going to try this. Much faster and easier.
