The furoshiki is a square cloth used for wrapping gifts, food and for transporting items.

Take a look at the links and you will learn how to elegantly fold fabric to wrap gifts that will impress everybody. Too-Much-Fabric-Syndrome ~This will help you get rid of fabric without any guilt!

Copy and paste this to see various wrap instructions- this is really interesting!

Copy and paste to see some more for sale at Etsy - these are really adorable and we can make our gift covering just as beautiful!

I bought two in Japan when I was there. They are quite lovely with a traditional pattern of geisha on their way to an engagement. one is in Autumn colors and the other is blue. They weren't expensive and being easy to tuck in your suitcase, are the perfect souvenir. I was shOwn how to tie them into a little purse- very clever.

What a beautiful, unique & eco-friendly idea. Have been intending to make gift bags of fabric, but this makes much more sense! Thanks so much for calling this to our attention & for the great links. Maybe we can practice the wrapping techniques on bandanas until we get our own furoshikis sewn!

This is the first time I've ever heard of or seen this. How beautiful. I will definitely be giving this a try.
