|This is a review of Susan's one-day workshop "the Little Black Dress" that I took at the American Sewing Guild (asg.org) annual conference in August 2010.
This was a hands-on, where Susan taught us about underlining choices, how to add it to a garment, the importance of a muslin, , and how to make a variety of hand stitches used in couture sewing. We also practiced installing a zipper by hand, and adding lining to the edge of a neckline (no facings).
Each participant was to have completed a muslin for a dress prior to the class, with thorough instructions from Susan on how to mark and construct it. At the conference, prior to the class, each person had a " fitting" appointment, where Susan assessed the fit and showed us how to make changes to the muslin for better fit.
I took this class in hopes of learning a few things, and came away with a lot more information than I anticipated. I am looking forward to using the stitches and knowledge learned.
Susan is easy-going, patient, personable, and overall a very good teacher. I enjoyed the class, and highly recommend her as a teacher. I would definitely take a class from her again.
