Fab Class from Susan Khalje online at PR.

Susan's class was fantastic. Although I don't own her wonderful Bridal Couture book (although I am NOW going to buy it for the couture techniques!) - I do own several others.

Why this class is worth it? Well, for starters - as stated earlier, I have access and own books on Couture techniques, however, I failed to pick up a needle to hand sew. The thought terrified me. I never successfully hand sewed a stitch with single thread.

By the end of the class - you will have a good start on mastering the majority of techniques.

The class has 4 lessons (which you are encouraged to complete by the end of the class.) The stitches includes overcasting, slipstitching, the catch stitch, the fell stitch, blanket stitch, buttonhole stitch, and many other stitches and techniques, such as a hand sewn zipper using the prick stitch.

The class also includes a healthy discussion on needles, the proper thread to use, and explains the role of beeswax in Couture Sewing.

I learned these techniques because it was imperative to at least attempt them to complete the Lessons.

Guess what? I completed about 80% of the stitches successfully, 10% of them very sloppily (hand buttonholes!), and I'm still figuring out thread chains.

Fun class - I didn't really think I could learn hand sewing in an online class - but you know what - I definitely could!!

The class included three chats and a message board open for the month and Susan is easy to chat with, and responds quickly to your questions. You can also post your projects in the photo gallery as the class progresses for Susan's review.

Highly recommended!

Susan is such a wonderful teacher, in person or on line. I was intimidated for years by the topic of "couture" sewing but Susan's gentle, loving manner is so encouraging and helpful. Glad you enjoyed this one.

Jane, I agree - I seriously doubted I could do this online - but it was actually very wonderful.

I really enjoyed the class and use these techniques more and more often all the time. Some of them take some practice but it's worth it and you have much more control over the work, which makes for better results. Great class.
