I use cotton clothesline instead of more expensive cotton cording for welting on furniture covers. The 3/16" size is perfect and is very inexpensive. I purchased 100 feet for $2.99 at Walmart. Similar cording in the fabric dept. was $.62 a yard. I used 82 feet in my chair covers. This saved quite a bit of money. I soaked a length of clothesline and threw it in the dryer. It did not shrink at all. Similar cording must be preshrunk.

Neat idea- why pay more for something that shrinks. Thanks.

Thanks for this tip. I haven't needed to buy cording here in Germany so far, but I bet clothesline cord would be cheaper here too.
