This is a tip from Natalie Chanin of Alabama Chanin. She talks about running your fingers over the thread when you are hand sewing. No one ever told me that in all these years, but I tried it and it really works to prevent tangles and knots.

Here is a link to a You Tube video where she talks about it.

I just discovered her and her books. I really am enjoying the one I got out of the library called "Alabama Studio Style"

I have her second book and have just started using her techniques for a simple cotton knit t shirt. Beautiful and creative option for hand sewing in front of the TV!

Gasp - I learned to treat my thread this way many years ago from my Alabama foster mother...how did I ever forget it? Thank you so much for sharing this video, yes, to talk to our thread about what we want it to do...with love. This was a pleasure.
