I have discovered that I can use my cell phone with a camera as a portable pattern stash reference. I took photos of all of the patterns I own so I could see the entire envelope and created a picture folder called "STASH PATTERNS". I also created another folder with pictures of patterns I want to look at the next time I go to the pattern store. I called that one "MAYBE". I also have a folder of the patterns I know I want to get the next time they go one sale at Joann's called "GOTTA GET" (creative, I know). Since I became unemployed a couple years ago, this has saved me a lot of $$ by not buying patterns in multiples. I once found a Vogue pattern I must have really liked -- I had 4 copies!!

I found this has worked very well for me; I am never out without my cell phone so I am never without my shopping list. This worked well with my Blackberry as well as my Android phone I have currently. Plus, Android phones have such good colors in their cameras I have even used this to take photos of fabric in my stash "just in case". I even managed to find a perfectly coordinating fabric one day when I did not have my fabric swatches with me!

Free app Evernote is amazing. When you take photos with your phone through Evernote, it will READ the words in the photo within about a minute. Then the words are searchable. Great for lists, reminders, etc. Also computer based, so you can type either in the phone or on your computer.

I do this too. I also take a picture of the fabric and the end of the bolt so I will know the fabric content and what I paid for it.
