Web site/URL: The Technique of Underlining Garments
Underlining Garments is taught by Sarah Veblen. It includes 12 lessons, four chats and a kit with fabrics, thread, needles and half-scale patterns. (These are really nice kit supplies so that you are working on the "good stuff" and not something that will frustrate you to work with while trying to learn.) The lessons cover the entire process of underlining from ways to select fabrics to cutting to sewing and special situations. This is my second class with Sarah and her style of presenting information is very straight forward and easy to understand. (So easy to understand that if you didn't know that you had no clue about something to start with, you'd think you'd always known it because it just makes perfect sense.) She is fabulous at answering questions and explaining anything you just aren't understanding. The chats were fun and helpful.

Underlining is different from lining, interfacing or insulation layers but there really isn't much out there as far as information goes, so having the opportunity at a class on the subject was great. I can see how this will really improve the right project and I've already begun to look at future projects with this skill in mind. I've actually set some aside knowing that I'm going to want to underline them and need to get some appropriate underlining fabrics. Granted you won't want to underline every sewing project, but when you're putting the effort into something special or using your really good fabric, this skill will definitely enhance the work you're doing. Even for something every-dayish like a linen or cotton dress can be improved with underlining (especially as it helps cut down on wrinkling--so cool!), so it really is worth adding this knowledge to one's skill set.

I agree with you completely. I also took this class and found Sarah helpful and so thorough. This class is very helpful in learning about clothing construction. Sarah is an excellent teacher with a wealth of information she shares with her students.
