A lot of patterns are recommending applying the facing and THEN the invisible zip. This leaves the zipper exposed and I think it looks sloppy. So I used this method instead. I apologize if this has already been posted - I couldn't find anything similar in my search of the Tips.
1. Serge or clean finish the edge of the garment where zipper is to be installed.
2. Serge or clean finish edge of facing.
3. Attach facing , leaving 7/8" free at the edge where the zipper will be attached. Grade seam.
4. Fold back the free end of the facing. Baste zipper in place. Fold facing back over zipper, right sides together. Pin or baste depending on your preference.
5. Carefully stitch the zipper in place. Finish stitching facing to garment.
6. Turn facing to the inside. Press. Edgestitch facing as far as possible.
7. On outside of garment stitch in the ditch to secure facing.
Result: A clean finished zipper and facing. No scratchy zipper tape on your waist!
