| This is a new offering at Keep Me In Stitches, taught by Kathe Seiavitch (sp). She uses the Fit For Real People tissue fitting method to teach her students how to tissue fit a pattern and then refine the fit on a muslin. She uses the Butterick fitting pattern and a fitted princess seamed pattern in the class. This is a hands on class in which you actually tissue fit the pattern to yourself and make the muslin. The process itself is time consuming and meticulous--the class is three 3-hour sessions but I learned plenty of great techniques for altering my patterns. I've found the book, Fit for Real People, to be confusing because I needed more detailed explanations of the alterations made and why. Kathe, who is infinitely patient, took the time to answer my MANY questions about the alterations--especially when I asked, "Well, why would you do this instead of this?" or, even worse, "Let me test my understanding..." (I'm the most annoying student ever!). Kathe is an experienced teacher and generous--she brought in extra patterns for us to use. She's also laidback and easy to talk to. She's dedicated to helping you identify and solve your personal fitting issues. While I wouldn't go through the entire process for every pattern, I will certainly use some techniques I've learned for each new pattern. |
I inched my way through PFRP - and learned a lot - but sure would appreciate a live teacher. Your review is giving me the impetus to look for such a class here in NY. Thanks!
