Nanflan has a great tip for Painter�s Tape:Painters' Tape Hem Stabilizer for Knits

Another use for painters' tape is altering patterns. At 5'4", I have to shorten everything. The painter�s tape comes off easy without tearing the pattern if I find I've shortened too much. Unlike regular Scotch tape, it can be ironed over. It's widely available (I got mine at Big Lots) and inexpensive.
I agree with Nanflan, it's my new favorite notion.
