This is Part 6: Cut & Sew a Fitting Sample in my pattern fitting series, "My Approach to Successful Pattern Fitting." In this segment I show you through a series of photo illustrations how to mark, cut and sew a fitting sample. This is commonly called a "muslin" and it's used to check the fit of your newly personalized pattern. It will be marked and pinned with any fitting corrections that still may be necessary and then later those corrections will be transferred to you pattern. It's important to keep in mind that even if you've taken the time to be measured properly (Part 1), add ease to those measurements (Part 2), selected a pattern based on those measurements (Part 3) measured (Part 4A) and adjusted your pattern (Part 4B) according to those measurements, added the seam allowances you feel most comfortable with (Part 5), it may be still be necessary to make small changes. Our bodies are dimensional and managing those curves is best done on the form. It should not be considered a disappointment to get to this point and still have small changes. This is just part of the fitting process.
