Using 5 step buttonhole on an outer garment, sometimes the thread of the buttonhole looks too meagre. One doesn't always have a heavier buttonhole thread in matching colour to hand. I just solved this on a navy crepe jacket by putting in a top stitch needle and having two spools of thread at the top (you can wind a bit onto a spare bobbin if needed). Can't believe it took me so long to think of this!

Sometimes use a heavier jeans thread and a lighter rayon for a bit of luster and fullness.
