|I have been making my own shirts for some time. The seams I use are flat felled seams, the same as are found on all good men's shirts.
These seams are not difficult but around the armhole the seam pukkers and does not look good.
Now I sew the sleeve with right sides together, overlock the edges and then press the seam away from the sleeve. Then I topstitch. It looks like a felled stitch on the outside. It is called a mock felled seam. Much neater.
