I joined the Florida Sewing Sew-ciety this past February. A member had told me about their first Expo in 2012 and it sounded like a lot of fun. It is held at Lake Yale Conference Center outside of Leesburg, Florida. It is much smaller than the Florida State Expo but offers a great chance to learn from wonderful teachers in a less formal setting.

The 2013 Expo was held on January 20-24, 2013. There were so many class choices but I had heard wonderful things about Judy Kessinger's Pants and T-shirt classes that I made sure to register for them first. I also took a hands-on sewing class by Linda McGehee. The other classes I took were an heirloom blouse class by Francine Kind and the FSS tote by Jan Squires -- the founder of FSS.

The Expo was located at a church conference center/camp with lodging and dining facilities as well as classrooms for hands-on sewing and lectures. The food was great and included in the price of the Expo. We participated in various contests where we displayed our garments and other items. We also had a fashion show. Wednesday evening Judy Kessinger and Linda McGehee entertained us with a wonderful presentation of how to use donuts to create many different garments. The donuts were the fabric variety and were guaranteed to be calorie-free.

The one class that stood out for me was when Judy Kessinger showed us a large rack of tops, dresses, and jackets, all made from her master pattern -- which was included in our kit. We were all very impressed at the garments that looked like they came from a high-end clothing store -- all from one basic pattern.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Expo and will definitely attend next year. It was very well organized and efficiently run.

I joined last year as an at-large member because there is no Chapter near me. I wasn't able to go as Jan was such a busy time for me plus some health issues. Sounds like some very good programs. Thanks for the review.
