I know that most of us have some sort of love/hate relationship with JoAnn Fabrics, but I just found this out I wanted to share.

All the JoAnn stores in this area accept competitors 40-50% off coupons (Micheals Crafts, AC Moore, and The Rag Shop being the ones in this area).

If an item is on sale, the coupon can be used to bump up the sale, from say 25% off to 50% off.

Those 40-50% off coupons can be used on yellow stickered clearance items, including fabric.

In today's economy, I'm always trying to get more bang for my buck!

The nearest JoAnn's store to me (Oceanside, CA) told me that the only competitor's coupon they will honor is Michael's. In addition, they will only honor it on craft merchandise, not fabric or notions. Lastly, they will not honor it in the same transaction as a JoAnn coupon. In other words, you cannot use a JoAnn coupon on one item and a Michael's coupon on another item unless you split your order into two separate transactions. To me, such a policy does not provide any additional incentive to shop at JoAnn's instead of Michael's.

Thanks for the tip. I called one of the Joann's in my area (Columbus, OH) and was told they would honor Michael's coupons. She had to ask her manager first, so I expect that I might run into employees unfamiliar with this policy if I try to use one. That won't stop me fromtrying. I did not specify fabric versus craft item and niether did the Joann employee. I asked if they would take Hobby Lobby coupons and she said probably. Hobby Lobby sells fabric and crafts. I don't think its a big deal to do two separate transactions if the money savings is worth it. There was an article in our local paper a few months ago where Joann executives said that Michael's is their main competition and that the Superstores are designed to attract Michael's customers (crafters). The article, which I did not save, left me with the impression that Joann, Inc. is much more concerned with the crafter's $ than the sewer's $. If that is the case, then it would make sense if they only honored Michael's coupons on craft merchandise.
