|The neighboring ASG offered 2 Sandra Betzina (SB) classes last weekend. I was only able to attend the pants class.
SB is an excellent speaker. Her talks are fun and interesting. No droning or dull lectures. She is full of energy, articulate, and will stop and answer questions or reiterate details.
The pants class focussed on 2 areas: sewing techiniques for successful pants and fitting. It's one thing to read the tip in Power Sewing, but it's even more helpful to have SB explaining it live, noting details, and handing you a sample that you can closely examine.
It was pretty exciting to try on the pants samples and have SB tell you how to fit them. I tried on the jeans, and according to the pattern envelope, I'm between an F and a G. Well, I could barely get the F on, so it was very helpful to know that I have to start with a G. Some alterations are obvious, like my very short front crotch, but it's invaluable to have her help you with the inner thigh stuff and protruding back calves. I think those are really hard to do by yourself or even with a friend who isn't an experienced fitter. It's also really nice to have the theory applied to an actual pattern that you can try on.
I highly recommend this class to anyone who has access.
