When my DM gave me her White SL34 serger (10 years old), I knew I would need to take a class to be comfortable. But I didn't think I could enroll in the Stitching Post classes since I didn't buy it from them.
Wrong! When I called to see if I could enroll, the representative said that the classes were for owners who purchased from them. I asked if I could pay a tuition to attend and after a long pause she apologized and said "Of course! I always forget to offer that option."
So if you see a good deal on a Viking or White serger but are concerned about access to the classes, you can get in. You won't get the other support but you can pay for the class. My 6-hour serger class was $115 - and worth every penny even though I'm only half done.
Now, I must admit that when I told the instructor that I got the machine from my mother she made some calls and my tuition was refunded because the serger stayed in the family. But I would have gladly paid anyway. |
