When thinking of sewing a new style, particularly time-consuming items, try on RTW items with a similar detail(s) - if at all possible - to see if you like it on you. You could save yourself doing hours of work only for disappointment.

I agree and learned that this is a good idea the hard way. Years ago (before becoming a sewing nut) I had a dress made for me and hated it. Not because of the seamstress' work but because the style was not flattering. Live and learn!
