Featured in the PR book!
When thinking of sewing a new style, particularly time-consuming items, try on RTW items with a similar detail(s) - if at all possible - to see if you like it on you. You could save yourself doing hours of work only for disappointment.

Yes! And when in the dressing room take notes and take your camera, too. Further I love to copy ideas from Vogue or other fashion mags.

A very good idea, but sadly time consuming (but not fabric consuming) in itself.

I agree and learned that this is a good idea the hard way. Years ago (before becoming a sewing nut) I had a dress made for me and hated it. Not because of the seamstress' work but because the style was not flattering. Live and learn!
