Featured in the PR book!
When my children were younger, they would often find stray hockey pucks in the field where our community hockey rink is and bring them home. They make the best pattern weights...heavy, smooth, semi-flat round disks. Once they were in my hands they never saw the rink again - just many yards of fabric.

Brilliant! I can't believe I haven't thought of using pucks. In my house the supply of "pattern weights" would certainly diminish in the winter (raided for each game of shinny), but could always be replenished when the snow melts!
