| Keeping a nail file handy in the sewing room helps to save your fine fabrics. There is nothing worse than snagging your treasured fabrics while handling them yourself. I find it especially useful in the winter months when the air is dry and my nails are brittle. |
I don't have long fingernails to snag fabrics, but my skin sometimes gets very dry and can catch on the fibers. I make sure to keep a good bottle of hand lotion near my bed to put on my hands morning and night.

I've found that wearing surgical gloves helps when I'm sewing with laces and other fine fabrics; especially when my hands are very dry.
