I took the beginner level class at Studio Opal this summer and highly recommend it to any one who would like to learn to sew.
This class was a very educational and fun experience. Jo-Anne’s approach is very thorough, she teaches you so much such as how to properly operate and care for your sewing machine, working with different textiles, basic pattern alteration, and many sewing techniques. The studio is a very creatively stimulating place to be.
When I took the course we worked on two projects; leggings and a hooded tank both in knit fabric. I believe that now the intro class works on a reversible messenger bag, but because the classes are so focused on technique and not just working through a project I think that it really doesn’t matter what you work on!
By taking this class I discovered a love of sewing and I’ve been inspired to keep learning. I am definitely planning on taking the next levels in the future.

Some of you may have been wondering what happened, as our website and email have been unavailable for such a long time. All we can tell you is that some mystical internet technology gnome was busy playing practical jokes and wiped out the server that hosts our site.
We're back now, and rebuilding our website to make it even better than before. However, we were told that their lease was up and Joanne will email us the new location for future classes. I received nothing and left multiple voice mails and emails with no response! I went to the old location for the second class and saw a sign up saying they were evicted. I am still waiting for a response from her! I find this extremely irresponsible. I could have signed up for another class but now I am stuck here waiting around. 9/12/06 0:24 AM
