I just thought I'd share a recent project. The film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved book Where the Wild Things Are comes out later this year. Given how many people have told me my son (the one on the left) reminds them of Max, I figured I'd have to make up a costume. I've made my kids lots of these one-piece, long sleeved costumes with hood / headpiece.

So, before I made the final version (I'm thinking using an off-white a double-napped flannel?) I thought I'd make a test costume. I used three separate Ottobre patterns to get a general idea. I had some barkcloth gifted to me by my mother, I thought it would be the perfect weight. And voila! (Modeled by my daughter; it turned out too long in the torso for my son):

"Rawr!"

I'm especially pleased with my ear design. The costume is lined in a slippery knit a friend gave me.

You can see more construction details in my
Flickr stream.

Cute, cute, cute! You did a lovely job on a Max suit. My son reminded people of Max when he was little too. Not something he cares to be reminded about as he is 29 now. I always thought it was that Max expression he'd get on his face , does your's do that too?

Thank you, ladies! I hope I made it apparent it is my daughter modeling - I made the suit too big so have to scale it down for my son. Altho' I want it to fit him in the Fall, so I have to kind of guess how much he'll grow, eh?

Yes, my son gets the Max expression. He is full of devilment! Is that a word? Likely not, but it's HIM. :-)
