Hi all,

I am looking to buy a new sewing machine and need some help in deciding which one to buy.  I have narrowed it down to the Janome 4800, Baby Lock Encore, or the Elna 6003Q.

Does anyone know anything about the Baby Lock Encore?  I have read a lot about the other two, but not the Baby Lock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Elaine

Hi,
I have an older Elna Carina and a Bernina 1530. Before I bought the Bernina (used) I was doing alot of research on the Elna 6003Q. Everything I saw was positive. I spoke to several people who had them (online) and they were quite happy with them and recommended them. I would have bought one except someone sold me their Bernina 1530 cheaper than I could get the Elna 6003Q for so I went with the used Bernina. I also love my Elna Carina. It has been a wonderful machine for me. I wanted a new one to do all the new buttonholes, and all the new features etc.  I don't know anything about the other machines you're researching. Good luck with your decision. Elaine

Hi, Elaine, I wish I could give you info on the Babylock Encore, as I am quite the Babylock fan, but that must be a discontinued model, as I didn't see it on their website. Was going to ask my dealer at yesterday's guide class for the Imagine (serger), but it was cancelled due to snow. So I'm not much help, I'm afraid. If you don't have a BL dealer nearby (and you can find the nearest one through their website, www.babylock.com), you may be better off with either of the other to models. Let us know what you decide.

You have yours narrowed to about the same three I was considering, except I was looking at the Espire instead of Encore.   I finally went with a used Elna 6004.  I am very pleased with my decision.  I went to dealerships and tried all these machines.  I just like the feel of the Elna better, and found one on ebay used.  Just seems better quality plastic casing, etc. compared to the others.

I would make a list of absolute must have's in features and stitches, and then see which one matches that first.  All the machines you are looking at are quality machines that owners rave about.  Look in Sewworld, they have good machine threads.  Good luck!!   :D

Ihave a bernina 200,Its so touchy..Especially the bobbin sensor, It works than sometimes It doesn't work. Thinking of selling it. Thinking of the viking designer se. Having a hard time on deciding. There is a update on the bernina, though it will cost because bsr & usb port. Still like the se for so many other reasons. I tried out the se, and liked it so much. But I will haveto wait. Checking it out this week at the convention here in ks. any thoughts... Thank-You Sarads

I'm a Baby Lock fan myself, with an Ellageo and a Decorators
Choice. (Although I do have a Pfaff serger.) I'm very pleased with both of my machines and to me they seem to sew very quietly.

Subject: Singer Sewing Machine Date: 3/11/08 8:27 PM

Ok here's the problem...My brother cs6000i wasn't sewing properly so i sent it back to HSN. So I bought the Singer Sew Simple which to my surprise doesn't have an extra spool pin holder. I called Singer earlier this evening and was told to purchase part#388036 (aux spool pin and felt) from two numbers the customer service rep provided me. Of course no one answered. I'm frustrated because I have no idea where the darn thing would go even if I bought it. Will this mean I can't use a twin needle since there's no place to put the second spool of thread. BTW it's the Singer 4166 exclusively at HSN. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might want to look into purchasing a stand thread holder that sits on the table by the machine. They are sold at Nancy's Notions on line but you might want to check local stores and sewing machine shops, Joann's and Hancock's too.
