Well after much looking around for over a year I bought a Janome 6600. I have looked at Pfaffs, Berninas, Vikings, Babylocks and Elnas. I really liked the Ambitions but they dodn't have a thread cutter. Then a few months ago I bought a Brother PC420. I have not bonded with the Brother. I wanted to love it but I don't. The lighting is not great and the width of it is pretty average for a sm marketed for quilting. So, I kept looking and went specifically to see a Janome Horizon. The dealer didn't have the Horizon so they demonstrated an Elna 740 which they said was nearly the same as the Horizon. What a nice machine but out of my budget. So, I decided on the Janome 6600. I am so excited! I will pick it up on Tuesday. I think I got an ok deal probably not great but I got a few extras and this dealer has a great warranty. Tuesday seems like a long time away!

Good for you, Marie! I think you got a wonderful machine. I've had mine for about 7 years now and I love it so much that I won't part with it even though I did buy a big-ass Bernina last February.
The Janome is a whole lot of machine for the money and should do anything you want from it!

Yes, i feel you get your dollar's worth with that machine more than any other. About 2 years ago, I went thru the same process with the same group of machines and wound up with the elna 7300 (like the 6600) and have not regretted it especially when i read reviews on the other contenders I had considered. Have not had an ounce of trouble with it but the main great thing is that it FM's so easily and well. I have FM'd on many different machines and i have the best results when i use the 7300. I did pop for the blue bobbin case and have never had a single eye-lash on the back. i also love LOVE the clear-view 1/4" foot so much more than the 02 foot you probably got with your machine. I also really love the border foot. If you do any decorative stitches, this is a must-have, imho. Somehow the Horizon just never tempted me. It doesn't have that "work-horse" feel that once you get used to, you really miss. I even watched a dealer re-direct a couple looking at the Horizon for heavy duty projects (dog beds) to the 6600. That should tell you something! Of course its a great machine also with many nice features to be sure! Congrats and have FUN!

Great! Now you'll have to join the Janome group on Yahoo; for 6500's and 6600s. The lighting on my 6500 was a big plus, compared to the newer machines of today. I figured if I was going to spend a lot of money $500, I was going to get the lighting I wanted--not the cra**y LED stuff that isn't strong enough. And I too love the thread cutter... I think yours also has a presser foot lifter. I'd love to use it on mine, but my sewing desk is too deep for it.

Congratulations, good decision. Great value and feature packed machine. I ought to know! It comes with a lot of feet and Janome feet are affordable. If you join the Yahoo group, Brubaker's gives members a discount. Great way to add accessories especially Acufeed feet which can be pricey. I think you will like the Acufeed.

lgrande thank you for the confirmation. So glad that you still like it so well even though you bought that 830-what an impressive machine that is!

Thank you for all the confirmation about my decision. It is so hard to know sometimes and this is a huge purchase for me. I will look into the Yahoo group. As to getting a discount, my dealer gives a discount too. I don't know how their prices compare but I will want those extra feet for the Accufeed. I have only dabbled in quilting but want to do more and it sounds like I will have the perfect machine for that!
I hope I don't miss the free arm! I wish I could have picked it up sooner but they had to get it from one of their other stores.
So, what feet do I need?
