Well after much looking around for over a year I bought a Janome 6600. I have looked at Pfaffs, Berninas, Vikings, Babylocks and Elnas. I really liked the Ambitions but they dodn't have a thread cutter. Then a few months ago I bought a Brother PC420. I have not bonded with the Brother. I wanted to love it but I don't. The lighting is not great and the width of it is pretty average for a sm marketed for quilting. So, I kept looking and went specifically to see a Janome Horizon. The dealer didn't have the Horizon so they demonstrated an Elna 740 which they said was nearly the same as the Horizon. What a nice machine but out of my budget. So, I decided on the Janome 6600. I am so excited! I will pick it up on Tuesday. I think I got an ok deal probably not great but I got a few extras and this dealer has a great warranty. Tuesday seems like a long time away!

Good for you, Marie! I think you got a wonderful machine. I've had mine for about 7 years now and I love it so much that I won't part with it even though I did buy a big-ass Bernina last February.
The Janome is a whole lot of machine for the money and should do anything you want from it!

Yes, i feel you get your dollar's worth with that machine more than any other. About 2 years ago, I went thru the same process with the same group of machines and wound up with the elna 7300 (like the 6600) and have not regretted it especially when i read reviews on the other contenders I had considered. Have not had an ounce of trouble with it but the main great thing is that it FM's so easily and well. I have FM'd on many different machines and i have the best results when i use the 7300. I did pop for the blue bobbin case and have never had a single eye-lash on the back. i also love LOVE the clear-view 1/4" foot so much more than the 02 foot you probably got with your machine. I also really love the border foot. If you do any decorative stitches, this is a must-have, imho. Somehow the Horizon just never tempted me. It doesn't have that "work-horse" feel that once you get used to, you really miss. I even watched a dealer re-direct a couple looking at the Horizon for heavy duty projects (dog beds) to the 6600. That should tell you something! Of course its a great machine also with many nice features to be sure! Congrats and have FUN!

Great! Now you'll have to join the Janome group on Yahoo; for 6500's and 6600s. The lighting on my 6500 was a big plus, compared to the newer machines of today. I figured if I was going to spend a lot of money $500, I was going to get the lighting I wanted--not the cra**y LED stuff that isn't strong enough. And I too love the thread cutter... I think yours also has a presser foot lifter. I'd love to use it on mine, but my sewing desk is too deep for it.

Congratulations, good decision. Great value and feature packed machine. I ought to know! It comes with a lot of feet and Janome feet are affordable. If you join the Yahoo group, Brubaker's gives members a discount. Great way to add accessories especially Acufeed feet which can be pricey. I think you will like the Acufeed.

DH eye tumor is starting to shrink! Yipee!! This is very good news.
My kid brother had a triple bypass ..he made it.through the surgery okay. Please keep him in your prayers. A long road to recovery ahead, as more heart issues found. Still so glad he is okay.

Thank you for all the confirmation about my decision. It is so hard to know sometimes and this is a huge purchase for me. I will look into the Yahoo group. As to getting a discount, my dealer gives a discount too. I don't know how their prices compare but I will want those extra feet for the Accufeed. I have only dabbled in quilting but want to do more and it sounds like I will have the perfect machine for that!
I hope I don't miss the free arm! I wish I could have picked it up sooner but they had to get it from one of their other stores.
So, what feet do I need?
