After my dress form dilemma (didn't know which one to get because of my small size), I listened to all of your recommendations and took each into consideration. I tried my best to make a paper tape form along with my husband, which I consider to have been something of a failure.

I finally went ahead and ordered a Uniquely You form, size Petite, with a #2 cover. I think we have a winner! I posted pictures on Winkflash so that anyone who is interested in this type of form can see it "naked," with cover on, and even the cover on myself for comparison. I am VERY fortunate in that "Torpedo Tillie" and I are close to being doubles. However, she has HUGE boobage, unlike myself, hence the name I have dubbed her. As others have said, they really DO look like torpedoes. The cover did squish them down to a manageable size. I will not have to alter the cover very much, if at all.

Here is the link to the photos. Hope it helps out someone else who is undecided on a form.

Thanks for posting this. I think I missed your original thread but I am glad you found something that makes you happy. The Great Dressform Quest is very engrossing, isn't it?

I am curious about several things. When you say "my small size" are you talking horizontal measurements (bust, hips) or also vertical?

I want to know because I'm 5'05", proportionate as far as I can tell, with a short back and narrow shoulders.

How did the dressform measurements compare to yours? Please share the info you are comfortable with. TIA

------
Morphology: Petite at 1m53 (5'), Burda size altered 19 or altered 38, Big 4 size 10 or 12 depending on ease;

TIA...I am only 4'10" tall. I measure about 33-27-34 1/2. My shoulder length is 4 1/4. The shoulder on the Size 2 Uniquely You cover is also 4 1/4. My back to waist length is 14"; so is the form's. The cover's shoulder width across the back (depending on exactly where you measure- I'm not 100% sure if I'm accurate on that one) is about 14" and mine is about 13...and so forth. Here is the Uniquely You measurement info for the PETITE form:

Form Size: Petite
Hip Measure.- 29" to 34"
Waist Measure.- 22" to 27"

Cover Size Bust Measurement
Size 1 29" to 31"
Size 2 32" to 33"
Size 3 34" to 35"

The hip size is a bit smaller than mine but I could let out the side seams on the cover to accommodate for that. (Edit: I WILL THROW IN A LITTLE PADDING) I am definitely somewhat lumpier than the form, because I am not made of foam! Since the bust area on the form is VERY full, I may have to shave a bit off of the bust/upper bust area. (Edit: STRIKE THAT! I GAVE HER A DOUBLE MASTECTOMY!!) I may tweak Tillie just a little (Edit: GUESS I DID MORE THAN A LITTLE) but it isn't terribly necessary. These forms are apparently able to be modified in many ways, even by serrated knife (Edit: I USED AN ELECTRIC KNIFE...WORKED LIKE A CHARM) from what I've read from others!! The seam allowances are about 3/4".
Hope this helps!

congrats on your new dress form. I really do love mine i just wish I could use it for pants. Oh well I keep doing those the old fashion way and there are not that many differnt patterns to make for pants.

I have added pictures to show the Uniquely You dress form after I got done modifying it. I lost the nerve to cut the shoulders to slope them. Outside of that, she represents me pretty well!

You may find that you will need to cut the arms off proportionally to your width at the shoulder/arm area to match you. The UY form that I have is tooo wide, and I have had difficulty fitting some items over the arm area. I am going to have to shorten the ones on my form.
