A few of us decided to do a sew along for the new Weekender Travel Bag.

Amy Butler Weekender Travel Bag

Has anyone begun yet?
I am still trying to decide on my fabric... hope to find something during the PR fabric shopping this weekend.

Well, I have yet to pick out fabric! Joann's is having a home dec. sale this weekend (50% off) and Hobby Lobby is running a sale as well (1/3 off, I think), so I thought that I would start there. I'm hurring to finish this top and maybe some pants (later on down the road) and have purchased fabric for Burda 8122. I just need a whole week of nothing but sewing and I might get caught up (lol)!

update: I double checked Hobby Lobby's ad and their home dec fabric is 1/2 off! Great deal, considering how expensive some of their fabrics are!

I would love to join this sew along! I just received my pattern this past Saturday. I'm hoping to go fabric shopping this weekend. Until then, I'll start reading the directions and cut out the pieces.

Question: Does the blurred bag in the background look different to you?
I think I may try to adjust the pattern to look more like it.

Well, I had to go back to my pattern and see..... I think that the blurred bag is the same one featured on the back, or at least the fabric combo is the same. She does have a different style bag on her site which roughly looks like the blurred one. I wouldn't be suprised if we see a pattern for this one soon too!

My pattern just arrived yesterday. I'm planning on getting my fabric at the JoAnn's sale and start this weekend. I noticed that bag in the background too...I want it so badly! I'm smelling a new pattern coming within the next few months (fingers crossed).

Has anyone tried mounting fabric onto canvas or some other heavier fabric? Is it difficult? I'm trying to decide if I should get AB quilting cotton and "mount" to canvas as suggested or go for heavier home dec fabric

I didn't realize there were two different bags. A new pattern on the horizon!

Amy Butler's Covington Bag called for using canvas with her cotton fabrics. I didn't have any problems working with it, but it did make the seams bulkier and the edges of the bag more difficult to turn - although I suppose a heavyweight home dec. fabric will have the same problems. I think that if you use the canvas and any interfacing that the pattern calls for you should be o.k. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Alright, today started Joann's sale - so guess what? I've already been! I got my fabrics, thread, and Timtex-type material (I wish I either had the 40% off coupon or interfacings were on sale because this cost almost as much as one of my sale fabrics). I had trouble finding 1/4 cording so I went with 9/32 (close enough right?). I'm still needing the template material (they didn't have any except some really flimsy type) and the 30" non-separating zipper - did anyone have any luck finding that? Of course I picked up a few other goodies while I was there, but whew, was that bill high!

I've tried mounting fabrics to canvas by machine basting and fusing (w/ wonder under). Both methods are easy, but I wouldn't recommend fusing because over time it started to detach and bubble.

I also went to Joann today, but only purchased some of the new Simplicity patterns. I'm planning to go back first thing Saturday morning.

Ok, I just returned from JoAnn's with my Weekend bag supplies. If you haven't bought your supplies yet, let me warn you, this is not an inexpensive project. Between the fabric, lining, Timtex, cording, interfacing, etc., the supplies cost me about $40.00. None of the Home Dec 50% off fabrics "hit" me, but they did have a great new selection of home decor fabrics hidden amongst the quilting fabrics. I'm finishing up a dress this weekend, but I'm planning on cutting out the bag as soon as I finish. Its such a cute pattern, I hope it turns out as nice as the one on the cover!
