Adjusting zipper length How is it done?
kerina Beginner ON CANADA Member since 1/1/03 Posts: 9	Like this post Date: 2/28/03 6:47 PM I'm stuck.  I have to insert a zipper that is not the right length for the seam it has to fill. I have a 14 inch zipper, but due to various alterations the space is now about 12 1/2 inches.  What do I do?  Do I open up the back seam so that it fits?  Or is there a way to shorten the zipper?  Thanks a lot!
Gigi Louis Advanced Member since 4/4/02 Posts: 7876	Like this post Date: 3/1/03 7:57 AM Kerina, a polyester coil zipper can either be shortened from the top (simply cut off) or from the bottom (cut off and make a hand bar tack for a new stop).  If your garment has a facing at the neck I would probably just shorten it from the bottom so that you don't end up with too much bulk at the top when the coil is included in the seam.  Good luck! PS:  If this is an invisible zip you can just go ahead and install it (stitch to the dot as indicated in your pattern), close up the seam and then make a hand bar tack and cut off the excess zipper.
