Date: 3/18/06 8:48 AM I have had some wonderful silky rayon/poly/lycra knit that I made into a t-shirt La Mia T-shirt that I bought at the Canadian Sewing and Needlework Festival for cheap cheap. It was labelled as being from Linda Lundstrom, who is a Canadian designer with her production facility in Toronto. Now ages ago I went to a warehouse sale there (OK, I still have some fabrics in my stash from there) so I called to find out if they are having another one in the hopes of finding more cool fabric. (Did I mention I work in a fabric store, so really NEED more fabric )
ANYWAY, to make a long story longer, they have a clearance boutique where they sell irregulars and FABRIC open on Thursdays from 12 noon - 7 pm. I swung by this week and got more gorgeous fabric for get this - $2 Cdn per meter for the silky stuff (very similar in hand to Christine Jonson's rayon knit). And a poly lycra print in a similar print to this: Tilley Tropicana designed by Linda Lundström for $5 per meter. They had several colours of the rayon knit, bins of scraps and many other interesting fabrics including lots of other knits similar to bathing suit fabrics. Lots were dyed to match as they are from the designer.
They also had some unfinshed samples and accessories to purchase.
A great find for those who live in the area! They still have the warehouse sales twice a year, the next one is sometime in June. -- Edited on 3/18/06 8:48 AM -- ------ http://sewstashsew.wordpress.com/

Date: 3/18/06 10:33 AM ARGH!!!!!!! I am so envious ... I won't be getting into the city till May long weekend when we come in for our annual zoo trip! Drats! But at least I know about it now ... ------ Like Miss Frizzle says "Take chances, make mistakes ..." isn't that what fitting is all about? I am happily taking chances and making mistakes as I fit muslin after muslin ...

Date: 3/18/06 10:47 AM Sue that is so neat. I envy you! If they have any of the faux shearling, snap it up! It's a wonderful fabric. I have one of her coats from last season that is made from the shearling. It's washable, warm and cozy. I love it!!! And I've seen shearlings that aren't nearly as nice at some of the Expo booths selling for $60 or more per yard. Makes me almost wish I was back in my high tech days and still travelling to Canada.
Sigh...
Ann ------ Life is too short to buy cheap fabric.

Date: 3/18/06 1:56 PM For those who want to know the address is:
255 Wicksteed Ave,
Toronto, On
M4H 1G8
Go through the main office doors at the side of the building and there was a sign to the "Win Win Boutique".
To get there, exit the Don Valley Parkway at Eglinton Ave going westbound. Turn left onto Don Mills Rd and right onto Overlea Blvd. Go west on Overlea until you see the Swiss Chalet, and turn right on this street which is Beth Nealson Dr. (This is industrial now) then turn right onto Wicksteed, the building is well marked and at the end of the street.
It is near the East York Towne Center to give you some perspective, in between the Don Mills and Leaside areas.
Happy shopping! Sue
