Date: 4/13/06 12:56 PM KS2565 and Simp 5098
I want to make view A of Simp 5098, cheongsam out of a knit, but I want to use my very well fitting KS2565 shoulders, and not repeat the FBA. I thought it would be easy to just copy the neck stuff and cut the pattern to make the separate shoulder piece.
The problem is that altho KS2565 is a crew neck t-shirt, I can't seem to find a point to match the patterns so that I can add the neck stuff. The shoulders on the Simp pattern slope much more than the ones on the KS pattern and they extend way past where KS pattern ends. Like the Simp pattern is a dropped shoulder. The Simp pattern has a tighter neck than the KS pattern.
How do I go about picking the spot to add the neck stuff to the front and back? What am I looking for? If I get a chance, I'll post pics.
Thanks for any suggestions. -- Edited on 4/13/06 12:57 PM -- ------ Neefer aka AgitProp and Village Churl Sewing Blog: http://www.oaktrees.org/blog/

Reply to Neefer Date: 4/13/06 4:51 PM Is the cheongsam for wovens? That might be why the styling lines are that different. If you can find another knit top with a fit you've worked out that is a closer match you'll make the transition easier. It looks as if there is too much difference to really do this. Remember you can also use the upper part of a dress pattern if you have one that fits.

No, it is for knits. I originally made the woven version, view D, but this time, I'm looking at view A - the knit version. -- Edited on 4/13/06 6:10 PM -- ------ Neefer aka AgitProp and Village Churl Sewing Blog: http://www.oaktrees.org/blog/

Reply to Neefer Date: 4/15/06 9:08 PM The way you have it lined up in the picture looks pretty good - center fronts match, the shoulder close to the neck matches.....One concern. Are the seam allowances on both patterns the same? I've driven myself crazy on more than one occasion, trying to compare/combine patterns when one had a 5/8" SA and the other had a 1/4 or 3/8" SA. ------ Where are we going, and what am I doing in this handbasket?

Reply to Karla Kizer Date: 4/15/06 10:49 PM Oh, Karla where were you last week. I realized this morning that I was having so much trouble because the Simp pattern had 5/8 SAs and the KS had 1/4. The Simp piece that I was using had one seam marked 1/4 SA, so I was thinking the whole thing was 1/4. I think I've got it figured out. ------ Neefer aka AgitProp and Village Churl Sewing Blog: http://www.oaktrees.org/blog/
