Date: 4/20/06 4:02 PM There are a few presser feet that I would like to get such as a bias binder foot. I am always wondering if purchasing a certain foot is necessary. Which foot do you love and which foot do you regret buying?
I have a Pfaff 2046 and a Pfaff 797 (serger). ------

Date: 4/20/06 4:14 PM I have every foot available for my Bernina. I have to say that I use all of my feet except the felling feet. I used to have all of the serger feet as well and never used any of them. The feet I use most are:
1/4"
straight stitch
edge foot
open toe foot
rolled hem feet in various sizes
I've never gotten the hang of binding feet but I love my binding plates. However, I don't think my Pfaff has the holes in the bed for them like my Bernina does so I've never had to learn how to use the feet. |

1/4 inch
edge stitching foot
blind hem foot
zipper foot (for lots of things besides zippers)
open-toed foot
I have a generic binding foot (adjustable up to over an inch) that I use some. It works better with bias bind rather than fold-over braid--which is what i use it for.
I do quite a bit of specialty sewing and also use my cording foot an dteflon foot a lot. That may not be applicable for your sewing. ------

Date: 4/20/06 6:01 PM I use my 5-groove pintuck foot more than any other. I have used it all day today  . I use it to make piping and to sew any seam involving piping and to install invisible zippers.
I also like the foot that Pfaff calls the narrow edge foot. It has a blade down the middle which you can fix in any groove (a seam, lace header, etc.) and allows you to stitch a straight line.
If you are into embellishment the couching foot is invaluable. It has a little loop of wire to hold the cord you are couching -- you can sew at full speed and the cording is laid down exactly where you are stitching. ------

Date: 4/20/06 7:00 PM i use the regular foot, the 1/4" foot and the zipper foot. when doing free motion quilting, i use the darning foot.
i have a binding foot and hate it, i'd rather put the binding on with my regular foot (i just press it in half and feed it manually). ------

Date: 4/20/06 8:07 PM I use straight stitch and/or zig-zag feet most of the time. I use open toe see through "embroidery" foot for topstitching because it has marks on it making it easy to get even topstitching. I also have the bias binder foot (the one I bought from Nancy's Notions NAYY) and love it. Walking foot is another good pick. Satinedge foot works very well for appliques. Almost forgot - the invisible zipper foot (the generic plastic one from JoAnns) works very well too.
I almost never use regular zipper foot, piping foot, gathering foot, darning/free hand embroidery foot (I could not get a hang of this one at all), the ruffler, beading foot, teflon foot, and roller foot. I don't use them much not because they don't work, but just because I don't have much need for them. ------

Date: 4/21/06 10:44 AM In all the years of sewing I have used the zigzag foot almost all the time, but I like the straight stitch foot for flimsy materials, and I use the zipper, darning, "see-thru" open foot (I forget what Pfaff calls this) also. I have used the piping foot, and of course buttonhole feet. I have a ruffler left over from my old Kenmore, and that baby is huge and I don't really know which side is up!Kidding...? ------

Date: 4/21/06 10:58 AM Thanks for asking this question. I'm trying to add a few more feet to my collection. I have an older Bernina 830 Record that belonged to DM. She got a box full of presser feet with the machine, but I don't use all of them. I am adding a few more specialty feet that I need for the projects I would like to make. ------
