I'm a recent customer of Michael's Fabrics in Baltimore and had asked about the famous linen bundles that they have sold in the past. They didn't think they would do them this year and my storage area heaved a sigh of relief. That was last week. Yesterday Michael called to say that they will be selling bundles of the closeout fabric from Poli Fabric in the NYC garment district.

Here are the details: 30 or 50 yds at $3.50/yd; cuts will be 3-4 yd pieces. Linen, cotton, silk and wool; prints and solids. The fabrics are not on the website. You call or email with colors that you wear and any that you don't, they will cut and make up the bundles to ship. It will probably take several weeks for the process to complete and the box to end up at your doorstep. These are lovely, very high quality designer fabrics, many imported.

Nope, I don't make any commission from this and NAYY of course. This is a fairly inexpensive way to get a lovely selection of nice fabrics. For me, I won't worry when I sew them because didn't pay a fortune for them but I'll have the pleasure of sewing on yummy fabric.

Now, where will I put this fabric when it comes? Better start sewing right now!

Hate to put on a sour face here, but I ordered a bundle from Michael a few years ago and was very disappointed. None of it was anywhere near the quality of fabrics found on the web site. I have never used any of it. A couple of the pieces are so strange I can't think of anything it would be useful for. I have stayed away from all bundles since.

Wow, Catherine, that's very good to know. Guess if it doesn't work out, I'll have lots of interesting muslins. Thanks for posting your experience.

I think it would be a public service if you post this message after EVERY bundle alert -- it certainly averted another credit card blowout for me!

I've purchased two bundles from Michael over the years. The first one was before they inquried about your color and weight preferences. It had some bizarre fabrics indeed, but also some treasures. For that price, I still came out ahead.

My second bundle had only one odd fabric, and the rest were exquisite. I felt like they had been especially selected for me, and they were all coordinated, ready for a SWAP!

The current offering sounds like it has some lovely fabrics. If I wasn't about to move, I'd probably get a bundle this time. I might yet!

I was in Poli shortly before it closed, and when I found out Michael had bought their stock I was very glad that it went to a reputable fabric dealer. I have purchased fabric from Michael's on several occasions and find the quality to be excellent and the customer service to be top notch. I need bundles like I need another hole in my head, so I'll pass. But if my memory serves, that pink boucle he has on the site right now looks just like the Chanel Linton pink boucle that Poli had in the window and which I was drooling over at $85 (or was it $125? I can't remember, sorry).

I bought a Michaels bundle last year(?). anyway only 1 piece was weird. The others were very nice. Bundles from anywhere are so cheap that you can always use them as muslins if necessary. I like the adventure aspect of not knowing what exactly I am getting.

Based on my experience buying from Michaels', I wouldn't hestitate to buy a bundle (if I were in the mood, and I'm trying to exercise restraint these days). I would feel pretty sure that if I found the bundle unsatisfactory, Michael and Sherri would compensate me. These people seem unusually righteous, in the old-fashioned sense of the word.
