I did my first sewing project ever today. I made a purse using McCall's Easy Stitch N' Save M5082, and I am so happy! You can really only tell there are mistakes if you are looking for them. All I have to do is find some black or red ring shaped handles for it. Does anyone know where to find handles like that?

Now if only I can figure out how to use MY machine... I learned how to use my boyfriend's mom's way nicer one.

Congratulations! First ever sewing project. Thats amazing. Purses are not the easiest first project but you did it.

For the handles try your local Joann Fabrics. They have started to carry a lot of handles now. Also if you have Walmart in your area, it might be worthwhile check there too.

For a complete list of resources, see my article on handbag harware in threads magazine #124

Hancock Fabric in my area is also now carrying purse handles.

Purse handles are everywhere lately. Check out craft stores such as Michael's, where they are selling purse kits and handles.

Good for you!!! I just made my first purse two months ago, but have been a garment sewer since I was 12.

Picked up a purse pattern for $1 thinking, "Maybe...", then got motivated after reading Deepika's article.

Purses are a lot of fun and lend themselves to lots of creative embellishment. Planning on order that K. King CD on handbags soon too!

Looking forward to your purse review!

Congrats on your first project! I agree a craft shop is a good bet for finding handles. You might also try eBay.

It's also worth taking a turn through the nearest thrift store. I often buy icky purses with perfectly wonderful handles that I "recycle." Although, it's easier to do that when you START with the handles and make the purse to go with.

I've seen purse handles at the quilting stores too. But I really have noticed that Hancock has a lot of purse supplies now.

Thanks, y'all! I will definitely check out the stores in my area when I get a chance.

I am going to do a review for this pattern, but figured I'd wait until I can show a picture of the completed project, because it really doesn't look like too much without the handles.
