OK, so I have to buy this Olivia the Pig fabric, because my DD's name is Olivia and yes, we collect all things Olivia-the-Pig.

I'm getting half-yards of each, although I can buy more yardage if I need it.

My dilemma: what to make? My first thought, of course, is a quilt, since that's what I "normally" make. But I'm not sure I really want to make a quilt. I don't want to make dresses (although they'd be adorable) because I'd prefer this to be something that lasts longer than a few months.

Does anyone have any other interesting ideas for what to do with fabric to make something that's a keepsake (that a small child will like now)? Just wondering.

How about her own bookbag or backpack?

Beangirl,

Oh My!! I love Olivia . . I think more than my DD. I love the pictures of Eleanor Roosevelt exercising that are in the books . . . Also the Maria Callas . . . and so on. I love kids books that are written for me as well!

I was thinking you could make an outfit for Olivia (or any other stuffed pig/animal) out of the material or even an photo album or scrapbook cover. Perhaps an apron, even though they get pretty 'worked' over in my house by DD. I am thinking I need some to make a tote bag for a new library bag . .

I wonder what an adult sized shirt would look like in this material . . .

thanks for these great ideas, guys!

Joan, I sooooo love the Eleanor Roosevelt pictures in the books. These are great books (I actually bought the first one before DD was even born-- although I didn't name her after it, I wanted to name her Eloise but DH wouldn't let me-- because I collect children's books. Used to be an illustrator in a former life).

ETA: this fabric collection is available from Keepsake Quilting. They carry your standard "good" quilt fabrics so you can probably get it at your local independent quilting shop as well.

I make my kids pillowcases out of funky fabric.

My daughter found Thomas the Tank engine fabric and brought it to me, saying, "You have to get this for Pulgito".

Good god, not the bright scary blue fabric? My DD made me make her a sundress out of it. Which she insists on wearing all the time. It's quite ghastly. LOL

what about covering a photo album with the fabric? Or a 2/4 ring binder, where you can save all the selfdrawn pictures for your kids?

Olivia is so adorable.

There's the Amy Butler Nap Pillow

Or Hillary Lang's super cute Wee Wonderfuls. There are some cute free downloads.
