Date: 7/26/06 4:59 PM I've been looking for a good price on Minky Dot so I can make a robe like the one in the current issue (number 2) of Sew Simple magazine. They all seem so expensive though around $18/yd, out of my budget.
I found that Chenilleplace.com has it on sale for $12.95.
Does anyone else know of a cheaper price than this? -- Edited on 7/26/06 5:00 PM -- ------ Teach the children how to think, not what to think! - Sydney Sugarman |

Date: 7/26/06 6:18 PM If it's genuine Minkee then that's a very good price. it typically runs $16.50/yd.
I get a good minkee knock-off in the garment district and pay 7-8 for it. I can only tell it's a knock-off when i put it beside the real stuff and pet it. ------ Mary Lynn (Who's finally sitting up and taking nourishment)

Date: 7/27/06 0:51 AM Minkee is a trade name and is manufactured by Benartex. The high end knockoffs are nearly indistinguishable. ------ Mary Lynn (Who's finally sitting up and taking nourishment)

Date: 7/27/06 4:12 AM Hi Katy Sews,
I sew with minkee and I love it - best regular prices I have found are at fabricdepot.com (13.97 per yd after 30% off) and overrainbow.com (13.75 per yd). These prices are for the dimple dot minkee which is more expensive than the plush. The overrainbow minkee is the Benartex brand. As I said, these are the regular, not sale prices. Of course then there is shipping! Even with shipping I cannot find really nice minkee blankee or minky (the knockoffs) for less than 18-20 dollars a yard locally so I buy it online. You will love your robe! Sorry I don't know how to link for you. :>

Date: 7/28/06 11:18 AM Mary Jo's in Gastonia NC has something so similar to minky that I cannot tell them apart in my stash. I have bought some over the phone in the dot version for $10.95/yard. They seem to have lots of colors. ------ Martha |

Date: 7/28/06 12:48 PM Is the back of it really supposed to be scratchy though? I felt the back of some Minkee yesterday in my local independant store and there was no way I'd have that against my skin no matter how pretty the front is. Do you line it with something? I don't remember the robe suggesting a lining.
Edit Oh yeesh, nevermind. I just looked at the pattern again and it looks self lined, which does look like it will feel luxurious.

Date: 8/24/06 10:34 AM I have never worked with, nor even seen minky. Is it woven or knit? What is it generally used for? ------ blog: encue.blogspot.com
